SU beats WVU to stay undefeated
The Syracuse women’s swimming and diving team remained undefeated by topping West Virginia on Saturday, stretching its record to 6-0. The men, however, fell to the Mountaineers, 133.5-109.5.
Elyse McDonough paced the Orangewomen — who won, 131-106 — by emerging victorious in three races: the 200-meter individual medley, the 200 butterfly and the 400 medley relay. Rachel Wrede won two races, and Kalei Mahi took one.
SU returns to action Saturday at home against Connecticut.
Track and field
The Syracuse women’s track and field team placed third, and the men’s team placed sixth at the U.S. Track Coaches Association Series Meet at Penn State on Saturday afternoon.
For the women, Johvonne Hernandez won the weight throw, while Jenna Grimaldi aced the high jump.
On the men’s side, John Bitok won the 3,000 meters, qualifying for the Big East and IC4A Championships.
The men’s and women’s teams will compete at the New York Elite Collegiate/Open Invitational in New York City on Friday.
