Campbell, Harbut return from suspensions vs. Tech
Syracuse women’s basketball head coach Keith Cieplicki said Thursday that Marchele Campbell and Tracy Harbut will return from their suspensions Saturday against Virginia Tech. Campbell and Harbut were suspended for violating team academic policy along with Tierra Jackson and April Jean – who both left the Orangewomen – prior to SU’s Dec. 30 game at Colorado.
Since returning from Winter Break, Cieplicki has been checking on Campbell’s and Harbut’s academic progress and is satisfied enough to reinstate the pair. Prior to the suspension, Harbut and Campbell averaged 3.7 and 1.1 points, respectively.
Cieplicki said he does not know if or how many minutes Harbut and Campbell will play. The return of the two players should give added legs to a Syracuse squad that has been playing with only seven players since the suspensions.
‘They’re a part of the team and they’ve been through a lot, and I think they’re really excited to get back on the floor,’ senior guard Julie McBride said. ‘I’m excited for them to get back, and I hope they learned a lesson. They’re good kids, they really are. They’re good kids and they work hard.’
