UU waits on Stewart bid results
University Union is still waiting to learn whether or not the star of late-night fake news, Jon Stewart, will be speaking at Syracuse University this semester.
UU was supposed to have heard whether or not the bid they placed two weeks ago for the possible April 29 engagement on March 2.
Stewart’s representatives have been changing the response dates, said UU president Dennis Jacobs.
‘They haven’t been able to sit down and find a time with him,’ Jacobs said Sunday.
Jacobs still had not heard anything from Stewart Tuesday, but still hopes to hear within the next few days.
UU is looking at other speakers to bring to campus with the $30,680 allocated for the event.
‘We’re keeping our options open,’ Jacobs said. ‘ … We’re not just going to have one big speaker like he is. We’re going to bring a couple medium-range, high-level speakers.’
Jacobs was not sure which speakers were on the list of potential replacements. UU Speakers co-chairs Chad Bender and Elliot Roberts were unavailable for comment.
UU will wait until at least spring break before moving on to other options, Jacobs said.
‘We’ll wait until spring break and then we’ll reevaluate our situation,’ he said.
