Q&A with Michael Ian Black
The Daily Orange: You’ve done lots of interview in your time as a comedian …
Michael Ian Black: This is my first.
DO: Really? And how’s it going so far?
MIB: On a scale of one to 10, I would rate it a three.
DO: So what do you enjoy doing out of sketch comedy, acting, stand-up comedy? What’s your favorite?
MIB: Now it’s a two.
DO: Yeah? Aw, I tried so hard.
MIB: I have been having a lot of fun doing stand-up comedy.
DO: Why?
MIB: I’m a whore for attention, so I like that. And I’m a whore in general, and the clientele is endless when you’re in front of 1,100 people. There are a number of people who would pay $50 or $60 for a blowjob.
DO: So when you do ‘I love the ’80s’ or ‘Best Week Ever,’ do they prep you beforehand or do you come in and they just throw you a topic?
MIB: I generally just sit down and we start gabbing … about (something like) the Cabbage Patch Kid, be it the doll or the dance.
DO: What about films, do you enjoy those?
MIB: Surprisingly, doing films is not that much fun. It’s long and it’s boring and most films aren’t very good.
DO: So, what do you think of college kids?
MIB: College kids have buttered my bread for a long time, so I have nothing bad to say about them.
DO: Nothing?
MIB: Nothing. I mean, most of them are f—ing idiots, but beyond that, nothing bad to say.
DO: Last question, do you love the ’80s?
MIB: I am indifferent to the ’80s.
