Man, 54, dies after collapsing in Schine

At 9:30 a.m. Monday, a man collapsed in the Schine Student Center and was pronounced dead seven minutes later of an apparent heart attack, according to Kevin Morrow, director of Syracuse University News Services.

Don Trapp, 54, was taken to Crouse Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the night-shift nursing supervisor at Crouse.

‘He came up the spiral stair case in Schine Student Center and he collapsed,’ Morrow said.

Nearby staff members rushed to his aid and Rural Metro Services arrived on the scene shortly after, Morrow said. A defibrillator was used in an attempt to revive him and then he was transferred to Crouse Hospital.

Trapp was a representative from the Buffalo accounting firm KPMG and was on campus on an invitation from SU’s Office of Career Services to interview students as prospective employees, Morrow said.

Hendricks Chapel offered counseling in Schine throughout the day for students who had met with Trapp and the staff members who had attempted to help him after his collapse.

‘The university’s thoughts and feelings are with his family and those he left behind,’ Morrow said.
