Remembrance Scholar: Michael Rizzolo
Michael Rizzolo walked past a poster of Scott Cory in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management every year. When Rizzolo became a Remembrance Scholar, he knew exactly who he would choose to commemorate.
Rizzolo, a senior finance and accounting major, knew about the honor of being a Remembrance Scholar, but the journey of discovering Cory was worth it entirely by itself, Rizzolo said.
He spent hours pouring over volumes in the Pan Am Flight 103 Archives.
Rizzolo would go on to discover that Cory and he shared commonalities and similar interests.
‘He seemed like he’d be a friend of mine…like someone I would hang out with,’ Rizzolo said. ‘It hits close to home.’
To his parents, Cory ‘lived his life to the fullest and considered study abroad one of his greatest experiences.’
Rizzolo doesn’t know if Cory’s parents, John and Doris, will be at Friday’s events, but he said they will find a piece of their son in him.
‘I hope I live up to the honor of remembering their son,’ he said. ‘It’s a week to reflect and honor the students and hope nothing like that ever happens again.’
