SA elects four new members, technology director
Student Association elected four new assembly members and a new director of technology at Tuesday’s meeting.SA reserves a certain number of assembly spots for students from each college, proportionate to the number of students enrolled in that college, said Jonathan Barnhart, chair of the committee of student engagement. The nominees were asked what personal qualities they brought to the table, what they thought of the extensive codes SA follows, and what they plan to do if elected.Elections for new assembly members occur on a rolling basis until all available spots are filled, Barnhart said. After elections, Seivert stressed the continued importance of a student response to the release of Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, the only person convicted in the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing that killed 35 Syracuse University students. SA’s student representatives to the Board of Trustees are meeting with the board, later this week, to discuss a unified student and university response.’We need to inform and make sure people understand that a rich part of the university’s history was made by something so tragic,’ Seivert said.Tim Wilke, chair of the committee of student life, reported that SA is working with Otto’s Army to try and organize buses to take students to away football games. Due to ticket issues there will be no bus to the Penn State game this weekend, but Wilke is hoping for a bus to the Pittsburgh game on November 7.
