SU to open New Meadowlands Stadium

The Syracuse men’s lacrosse team will be part of the first public event held in the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., according to a statement released by SU Athletics Monday afternoon. The two-time defending national champions will take on Princeton in the Konica Minolta Big City Classic, a lacrosse tripleheader on April 10, 2010.

‘It’s going to be an exciting day that’s for sure,’ Orange head coach John Desko said in the release. ‘To play a team the caliber of Princeton in a brand new, state-of-the-art NFL venue is great for the sport, and it’s a real treat for our players and fans.’

Delaware and Hofstra will play the first game of the day, at 1 p.m., with Virginia and North Carolina to follow at 4 p.m. Syracuse and Princeton will then face-off at 6:30 p.m. to end the day’s events in the new home of NFL’s New York Giants and Jets.

Tickets go on sale for the 2010 Big City Classic on Nov. 12. Tickets range from $15 to $45, and can be purchased through Ticketmaster or at BigCityClassic.com.

At the 2009 Big City Classic held in the current Giants Stadium, the Orange fell to the Tigers, 12-8. The loss was just one of the two Syracuse suffered all season. SU eventually went on to win the national championship over Cornell on May 25 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
