Multiple power outages affect campus area after storm

 

Multiple outages happened in the Syracuse University area after a Saturday evening hail and rain storm.

A Department of Public Safety car was stationed with flashing lights at the intersection of South Crouse and Waverly avenues where the traffic light had gone out. Traffic lights were also out at the intersection of Irving and Waverly avenues, and the intersection of University Place and Irving Avenue.

DPS confirmed there was a power outage in the area, but did not have further details. Lights were still on in North campus residence halls, but went out for a few seconds on South Campus at 6:45 p.m.

Thirty-one active outages were happening in Syracuse area at 6:52 p.m., according to the National Grid website.



Two outages affecting 45 customers happened near campus at 5:07 p.m. and power is expected to be restored by 7:30 p.m., according to the National Grid website. Three nearby outages affecting less than five customers are expected to be restored by 8 p.m. The time the power outage began was not listed.

An outage affecting less than five National Grid power customers happened off Harrison Street at 5:34 p.m., according to the National Grid website. Power is expected to be restored by 7:45 p.m.

National Grid could not be reached for comment.
