Two SU students involved in car accident on Ostrom Avenue
Two Syracuse University students were involved in a collision at the intersection of Ostrom and Waverly avenues Wednesday afternoon. Neither student was injured.
Steve Nole, a senior finance and entrepreneurship major, was traveling northbound on Ostrom in a red Mitsubishi Lancer when he was struck by a gold Honda Accord.
The driver of the Honda, Eugene Park, a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences, said he was turning left from Ostrom onto Waverly when he collided with Nole. Park said he didn’t see Nole coming down Ostrom.
‘I know I wasn’t watching as well as I should have,’ Park said.
The bottom-half of Park’s front end bumper broke open and was leaking fluids. Meanwhile, the driver’s side headlight of Nole’s Mitsubishi was smashed on impact.
Responders from Rural/Metro and the Syracuse Fire Department arrived 4:24 p.m. and left less than ten minutes later. Neither student was examined for injuries at the scene. Park and Nole snapped photos of the damage on a cellphone as they waited for the Syracuse Police Department to respond.
Traffic slowed momentarily as drivers maneuvered around Park’s Honda that sat across both lanes of traffic before being moved to the right shoulder.
Scott Carns, a Syracuse Police Department officer, arrived at 4:57 p.m. and described the accident as a ‘basic fender bender.’
After getting the go-ahead from Carns, Nole was able to drive from the scene in his Mitsubishi, unaided. Park left the scene with a friend while Carns waited for the towing company to arrive.
Towers from K & C Auto Body arrived by approximately 5:45 p.m to retrieve the Honda.
