Fine allegations : Fine replaced as Sigma Alpha Mu adviser

UPDATED: Dec. 19 at 1:15 a.m

After former associate men’s basketball coach Bernie Fine was fired, Brad Sobotka, a 1986 Syracuse University alumnus and information manager for the Annual Giving Program at SU, was named the new adviser for the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity.

On Tuesday, the first two people to accuse Fine of sexual abuse, former ball boys Bobby Davis, 39, and Mike Lang, 45, announced they will file a lawsuit against head coach Jim Boeheim and the university. The lawsuit alleges that Fine committed sexual abuse in an SU fraternity house, though it does not specify which one, among other locations.

Craig Leppert, the prior of the Eta chapter of Sigma Alpha Mu at SU and a junior in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, declined to comment. Sobotka also declined to comment.

Eddie Banks-Crosson, director of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs at SU, said in an email that he has been asked to refer questions to Kevin Quinn, senior vice president for public affairs.

Quinn could not be reached for comment.
