David Guetta documentary screening offers sneak peek into the man behind the music

The electronic beats of world-famous DJ David Guetta will blast from the speakers on Syracuse University’s campus. Only this time, it will come from a college classroom instead of a student’s dorm room.

Guetta’s music will accompany his new documentary, ‘Nothing but the Beat: The Fire Within,’ screening at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Gifford Auditorium in Huntington Beard Crouse Hall. Guetta’s new documentary title echoes the names of his most recent album. Free and open to the public, the event is co-hosted by Guetta’s record label, Capitol Records, and University Union Cinemas and Mass EDMC/NV Concepts. There will be free giveaways at the event, including a raffle for two tickets to Guetta’s upcoming concert at the OnCenter Feb. 3.

Mika Posecion, the program director for WERW, is also the campus representative for Capitol Records at SU. She said the documentary is based on the album and describes the process of its creation as well as Guetta’s thoughts on music.

‘Expect to see David Guetta in action,’ said Posecion, a junior political science major. ‘It’s also an opportunity for people to see a different side of Guetta, not just the performer DJ Guetta.’

Posecion stressed that the documentary is a film for any music lover to watch, even if Guetta is far from being a favorite artist, or if house electronic dance music is not one’s preferred music genre.

‘It’s really for the people who are really into the process of creating music,’ she said. ‘And it’s for the people who value opinions of different artists on the industry and how they perceive it and how they think their own music affects the industry.’
