Syracuse to host 2 games in Carrier Dome

For the first time in program history, the Syracuse volleyball team will play two matches in the Carrier Dome, SU Athletics announced in a press release Thursday.

Both matches will be during Big East play, with the first one taking place on Nov. 4 against Connecticut, and the second on Nov. 11 against Seton Hall. The Orange will play the rest of its home matches at the Women’s Building.

“There is so much tradition surrounding a place like the Dome and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to play there,” head coach Leonid Yelin said in the release.

Yelin is entering his first season as Syracuse’s head coach, after taking over for Jing Pu, who was fired midway through last season.

The SU volleyball team is making its debut in the Carrier Dome, just eight months after the softball team did the same in the “Duel in the Dome,” when it hosted Colgate and Canisius.

Syracuse, which returns four starters from a season ago, starts the 2012 season Aug. 24 in the Colgate Classic in Hamilton, N.Y. The Orange plays a total of 30 matches this season, and will face six teams that made the NCAA tournament last year.
