Pittsburgh Steelers draft former Syracuse safety Thomas with 111th overall pick of NFL Draft
The Pittsburgh Steelers took Shamarko Thomas with the 111th overall pick of the NFL draft Friday, making him the third former Syracuse player off the board.
The Steelers traded their 2014 third-round pick to the Cleveland Browns to draft Thomas with the 111th pick on Saturday.
Thomas led the Orange in tackles last season with 84. He also forced three fumbles and recorded a pair of interceptions, a sack and two tackles for a loss for SU.
Thomas elevated his draft stock with an outstanding combine performance, including a 4.42 40-yard dash, 28 reps on the bench press, a 40.5-inch vertical leap, and a 133-inch broad jump, all of which made him a top performer.
Thomas joins tackle Justin Pugh, the No. 19-overall pick, and quarterback Ryan Nassib, the 110th pick in the fourth round, as Syracuse players selected in the 2013 NFL Draft.
