After a dazzling performance against Wagner, Syracuse quarterback Terrel Hunt will make his first career start Saturday against Tulane, Scott Shafer announced during his weekly interview with Orange All-Access on Monday.
“We’ll start off the game with him,” the head coach said.
Hunt completed 15-of-18 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns in Syracuse’s 54-0 win over Wagner. He also rushed three times for 22 yards after scoring a touchdown with his legs in garbage time of the Orange’s loss to then-No. 19 Northwestern on Sept 7.
Drew Allen, the transfer from Oklahoma who started SU’s first three games, has completed just 51-of-89 passes for 530 yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions. He played the first three drives on Saturday, throwing for a negative yard before Hunt entered.
Allen later threw his second touchdown of the season in garbage time.
Shafer, though, said that “Drew will be ready to get in” when Syracuse hosts the Green Wave at 12:30 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
“There’s something good about having two guys that are competing throughout the course of the season,” Shafer said, “and that’s what we have right now.”
