Three Syracuse players selected in Major League Lacrosse draft

On Friday night, three Syracuse senior lacrosse players were chosen in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft. Defender Matt Harris was chosen by the Chesapeake Bayhawks, and midfielder Scott Loy and attack Derek Maltz were both chosen by the Ohio Machine.

Harris was chosen in the third round (No. 21 overall) by the defending MLL champion Bayhawks. The defender, who is one of four SU team captains this season, was an All-Big East Second Team performer last year. In 2013, Harris led SU in caused turnovers (29) and ranked second on the team in ground balls (52). Harris has 109 career ground balls and 47 caused turnovers in his SU career.

The Ohio Machine used back-to-back selections to choose Loy in the fourth round (No. 27 overall) and Maltz in the fifth round (No. 39 overall). Loy started 18 games in 2013 and scored 20 goals. In 48 career games for the Orange, Loy has 29 goals and six assists.

Maltz is also a team co-captain and earned All-Big East Second Team honors in 2013. He was second on the Orange with 32 goals last season. In his career, Maltz has 79 points, including 63 goals.

SU opens its 2014 campaign against Siena College on Feb. 10 at the Carrier Dome.
