Otto’s Army to provide buses to game against University of Virginia

The Syracuse University men’s basketball team is in the midst of a three-game-roadtrip, and fans of the Orange will have the chance to join them when the team takes on the University of Virginia on Saturday.

Otto’s Army, along with the Student Association, is providing a free bus and free game tickets for students to travel to Charlottesville, Va. for Saturday’s matchup against the Cavaliers.

Tip-off for the game is set for 4 p.m., and Ben Glidden, president of Otto’s Army, said the bus will leave at 5:30 a.m. Saturday. Free tickets for the bus and the game will be available to SU students with an SUID starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the Schine Student Center. Students are limited to one ticket per person.

“We were lucky enough to get 44 tickets,” Glidden said. “The game was actually sold out, but we got in touch with the SU box office and they helped us get 44 tickets.”

Glidden said Otto’s Army had to submit a budget for the bus trip in the spring in order to secure funding. SA is funding the cost of the bus, and Otto’s Army is providing the cost of tickets.

Glidden said any student, not just season ticket holders, can get tickets.

The trip will take around seven hours each way, but Glidden doesn’t think it will be a factor for students who choose to attend.

“The students who are going are probably students who are pretty hardcore and who are committed to giving up a weekend to go see the team, so it’ll be worth it for those kids,” Glidden said.

He added that students had been contacting him for the past few weeks about whether or not a bus trip would happen for a basketball game this season. Now that it’s scheduled, he said he’s looking forward to the trip.

Said Glidden: “It’s always a good time, it’s always a lot of fun and hopefully we can go down to Virginia and cause some mayhem.”
