Students to participate in Sports Illustrated photoshoot
Syracuse University students will get their second chance in the last year to grace the cover of a national magazine.
Sports Illustrated will hold a photo-shoot Thursday afternoon at Manley Field House that will feature a Syracuse basketball player surrounded by about 50 students, said Ben Glidden, president of Otto’s Army. The shoot will likely be used for the regional cover of the magazine’s NCAA tournament preview issue, he said.
The set up will be very similar to last year’s Sports Illustrated cover, which featured former SU point guard Michael Carter-Williams in the Carrier Dome amidst a sea of orange-clad students.
“It’ll be a different environment because this year it’s in Manley,” Glidden said. “So there’ll definitely be some kind of difference. It should be interesting.”
Glidden said students interested in being in the shoot should arrive at Manley Field House by 1:45 p.m., and he encouraged them to wear plenty of orange.
In the case that more than 50 students show up to the shoot, not everyone will be in the picture, Glidden said, so it’s best to show up early.
Glidden said students are “really excited” about the opportunity to be a part of another Sports Illustrated cover.
“I was a little worried at first because it’s late in the week and some students are leaving for break,” he said. “But it’s not every day you get to be a part of something like that.”
Glidden called it a “big deal” for SU basketball to be in the national eye on a regular basis. From a student perspective, he said it’s an honor to have the chance to be a part of all these events and opportunities.
Said Glidden: “I think it’s great for us we get to have these opportunities with the team, but we’re extremely grateful for (the team’s) success as well.”
