Treanor named Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year
Kayla Treanor was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year on Monday, becoming the first Syracuse athlete to receive an ACC Player of the Year award in any sport.
Along with Treanor, Maryland’s Megan Douty was given the ACC Defensive Player of the Year Award honor.
Syracuse’s sophomore attack finished the regular season first in the nation with 102 points. Her 70 goals rank second in the nation, while her 5.10 points per game are third.
Treanor’s 102 points are also fifth all time on Syracuse’s single-season list, and mark the second time an SU sophomore has reached that plateau. Senior Alyssa Murray recorded 105 points as a sophomore back in 2012.
And those numbers could still rise, as No. 2 Syracuse (18-2, 6-1 ACC) begins its NCAA tournament run. The Orange was one of six teams that received a first round bye, and is set to face the winner of Towson and Stony Brook on Sunday at SU Soccer Stadium.
