Buescher scores goal in 1st Syracuse exhibition
Julian Buescher smiled awkwardly when asked about his first goal in a Syracuse uniform.
It didn’t take the freshman long to show SU fans he’s capable of living up to the reputation that’s followed him to Syracuse. But he was much more focused on the big picture, rather than his accomplishment.
“It’s a great feeling,” Buescher said. “But I’m happy that we (had) a good result, and that’s more important to us.”
After making himself a constant in the game’s opening moments, he delivered the first blow in Syracuse’s 4-1 win over Hartwick on Saturday when he knocked in a penalty kick with 11:43 left in the first half.
He faked a kick to his right and made Hartwick goalie Mateo Munarriz dive to his left as the shot went in the opposite direction and gave SU the lead.
“He’s an exciting player,” head coach Ian McIntyre said.
Buescher came to Syracuse in the spring as a 21-year old freshman that had been a player for the Under-18 German national team.
Said McIntyre: “I’m sure he’s going to be a fan favorite.”
