Otto’s Army exists to unify the student body in support of all things Orange. While much of the excitement on campus tends to revolve around the basketball and football teams, it is part of our mission to build a sense of school spirit for additional sports such as men’s soccer, among others. These student-athletes work very hard to compete at the highest level and are truly deserving of our support.

As many students know, our men’s soccer team is currently having one of its best seasons in history. The Orange is ranked No. 4 in the country and is 9-1, with impressive wins over Virginia, Clemson and Virginia Tech. Led by junior goalkeeper Alex Bono, who has only allowed one goal all season, and sophomore forward Emil Ekblom, who has netted five game winning goals, the Orange is taking the Atlantic Coast Conference by storm.

Otto’s Army has started a #PackTheHill campaign to unify a student section at SU Soccer Stadium. While still in its infancy, this effort has been wildly successful. We are urging all students to come out and show their support for the men’s soccer team throughout the rest of the regular season and beyond.

This week, the Orange has a set of important home games that we have been actively promoting through social media. On Oct. 7, the Orange will be taking on Albany at 7 p.m. Specifically for this game, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee is hosting a Kick Away Cancer event to raise money for the Carol M. Baldwin Foundation, which raises money for breast cancer research. There will be plenty of opportunities to donate and we are looking for all students to #PackTheHill with pink.

After what should be an exciting game on Tuesday, the Orange will take the pitch again on Friday night at 7 p.m. against Wake Forest, an ACC and national powerhouse. Like any other big game, we will attempt to gather a large student section and create a raucous environment at SU Soccer Stadium.

With these games on the horizon and a clash with No. 1 Florida State for the football team on Saturday afternoon in the Carrier Dome, it is sure to be an exciting week on campus. Join Otto’s Army as we look to give our student athletes the home field advantage that they deserve.
