Walk-on Akintobi-Adeyeye quickly impresses Boeheim, works with Christmas, Obokoh

Last week, Doyin Akintobi-Adeyeye worked out in front of Jim Boeheim and the Syracuse coaching staff. Moments later, he was the Orange’s newest player.

“He came and worked out and we saw him do a couple things and two minutes later he was on the team,” Boeheim said.

Akintobi-Adeyeye, a walk-on sophomore center, impressed with his physical play, Boeheim said. The 6-foot-6, 235-pound Uniondale (New York) High School graduate joins the team with former McDonald’s All-American junior center DaJuan Coleman out with a knee injury. In September, Boeheim said he wasn’t sure when Coleman would return.

Akintobi-Adeyeye continues to work with big men Rakeem Christmas and Chinonso Obokoh in practice, Boeheim said.

“He holds his own and we’re happy to have him,” Boeheim said. “You don’t get too many big guys that just walk in like that.”
