Syracuse falls to No. 8 Florida State in 3 sets
Syracuse (8-20, 1-15 Atlantic Coast) lost in three sets to No. 8 Florida State (26-2, 15-2 ACC) in Tallahassee, Florida on Sunday. SU hit .286, its second-best mark of ACC play, but the Seminoles overmatched the Orange, 25-19, 25-15 and 25-17.
In the first set, SU played point-for-point with FSU, but the Seminoles pulled away midway through the set. With SU up 13-12 in the first, a Gosia Wlaszczuk service error sparked a four-point run by FSU. The Seminoles took the lead and ran with it, taking the set, 25-19.
FSU kept its momentum going, using an early five-point run to beat SU in the second set. Two Nicole Walch service aces for FSU and an attack error by SU’s Silvi Uattara boosted the Seminoles’ second-set run, helping them take the set, 25-15.
Up two sets, FSU buried the Orange on its first try. Down 4-3 early in the third set, FSU used a six-point run to break SU, never surrendering the lead again. Up 22-14 later in the set, FSU traded points with SU, finishing the set, 25-17.
SU ended its Florida road trip 0-2 after falling to Miami in three sets Friday night. The Orange will head back to the Women’s Building for a Wednesday game against Virginia Tech and a Friday night matchup with Virginia to end the season.
