School of Architecture receives grant to launch fellowship program
The Syracuse University School of Architecture has received the largest gift by a living donor in the school’s history.
The gift, which totals $750,000, was made by Paula der Boghosian, a class of 1964 SU alumna, to honor her brother, Harry der Boghosian, a class of 1954 alumnus. The School of Architecture announced the creation of the Harry der Boghosian Endowed Fellowship Program, which is designed to give faculty members early in their career, “the opportunity to spend a year developing a body of design research while teaching at the School of Architecture,” according to a Feb. 12 SU news release.
“The Harry der Boghosian Fellowship will help us to attract the best and the brightest emerging professors to the School of Architecture, enhancing student instruction and faculty discourse while supporting research areas valuable to architectural education and the discipline,” said Michael Speaks, dean of the school, in the release.
Speaks could not be reached for comment with further questions.
“The Der Boghosian Fellows will make a major impact on teaching and research in the school and on the university as a whole,” said Chancellor Kent Syverud in the release.
Students will have the opportunity to collaborate on projects with der Boghosian Fellows, according to the release.
Der Boghosian served in the U.S. Army as a communication specialist in Landshut, Germany and went on to become a tenured faculty member at the University of Arizona.
