Sophomore guard Ron Patterson will transfer to Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis, he tweeted early Sunday afternoon.
Patterson announced that he would transfer from Syracuse on March 19 — the same day sophomore B.J. Johnson declared his intent to transfer. Patterson only had 2.6 points and 1.7 assists per game and played just less than 14 minutes per contest this season for the Orange. He is from Indianapolis, so the move will bring him much closer to home.
He is one of three players to leave SU with eligibility remaining, joining Johnson and freshman Chris McCullough, who declared for the NBA Draft on Thursday. Syracuse will only have six returning scholarship players next year, in addition to adding four incoming freshmen who are on scholarship.
Patterson’s departure leaves the the Orange with a backcourt that includes Kaleb Joseph, Trevor Cooney, Michael Gbinije if needed and rising freshmen Franklin Howard and guard/forward Malachi Richardson.
