Syracuse resident encourages community to support childhood enrichment programs
While New York State remains embroiled in public education politics, another generation of disadvantaged children falls behind in our public schools. It’s no secret that poverty presents daunting challenges to our kids, their parents and their teachers. Proposition: If we could help disadvantaged kids get past early childhood developmental deficiencies they could perform on par with advantaged children academically and beyond for a lifetime.
Thanks to the work of Geneva Hayden, a retired Syracuse teacher’s aide, we’ve seen how early childhood enrichment can change the lives of our kids, their families and their teachers. Private sector and faith based support suggest that an ongoing culture of volunteer driven childhood enrichment may be possible. We can save a generation of children. Tell school administrators and community leaders that you support early childhood enrichment in your city and school.
