Jessica Sibley’s OT goal leads Syracuse over Robert Morris

Jessica Sibley’s overtime goal propelled Syracuse (4-4, 2-0 College Hockey America) to a 4-3 victory over Robert Morris (4-4-1, 0-1), marking the Orange’s second conference win of the season.

The first two periods featured two goals from two players, RMU’s Ashley Vesci and SU’s Alysha Burriss. Vesci scored first with 12:27 remaining in the first period, with Burriss responding just over two minutes into the second period. Vesci struck again with 15:11 left in the second period, but Burriss answered four minutes later with her second goal of the night.

Syracuse took its first lead of the night when Dakota Derrer scored her first goal of the season with 16:28 left in the third period. But the Orange’s 3-2 lead wouldn’t last, as RMU’s Mikaela Lowater scored with 3:35 remaining in regulation.

Sibley only needed a little more than an extra minute of action to win the game for Syracuse, scoring with 3:58 left in overtime. The Orange fired three shots before Sibley’s attempt beat RMU goalie Jessica Dodds. It’s the first overtime win for Syracuse in 2015-16.

Syracuse will stay in Moon Township, Pennsylvania overnight to face the Colonials again on Saturday afternoon.
