Timeline: The relationship between Syracuse University and Utica College
1946
Utica College is established as a two-year institution in addition to Triple Cities College (present-day Binghamton University) by Syracuse University and Utica community mayors to address needs of returning World War II veterans.
1949
UC is founded as a permanent, four-year institution.
1978
UC receives accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
1995
UC legally separates from SU and becomes an independently chartered institution.
1999
UC begins offering its own graduate degrees.
2008
UC begins offering selected undergraduate degrees.
2011
All entering freshmen and transfer students begin to receive UC bachelor’s degree starting at the beginning of the calendar year.
2015
UC cuts tuition by 42 percent and total cost by 35 percent.
2016
The last UC students to receive SU degrees will graduate, formally cutting academic ties between SU and UC.
