FBI agent says Bernie Fine tried to molest him
Douglas Astralaga, an FBI agent, said former Syracuse University associate men’s basketball coach Bernie Fine tried to molest him 34 years ago, in a deposition filed in federal Court on Wednesday. Fine was accused in 2011 by Bobby Davis and Mike Lang of molesting them while they were ball boys at the university. Fine was fired by SU, but never charged.

DPS implements body camera program to boost accountability
Beginning Thursday, the Department of Public Safety’s officers who are armed — 36 of the 42 — began wearing a body camera on duty at all times. The cameras will only turn on when an officer is interacting with someone from the community and are aimed at fostering more accountability and trust with DPS.

Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul gives ‘Enough is Enough’ presentation at SU
About 50 to 60 people attended New York state Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul’s presentation about the “Enough is Enough” legislation at Syracuse University on Wednesday. The presentation lasted about 30 minutes and was meant to raise awareness about the new law.

South Campus storage facility saves SU Libraries nearly $2 million
Starting in 2012, SU Libraries have been moving low-use print items into a high-density storage facility called “The Facility.” So far, more than 600,000 items have been moved into storage. The process will save the university about $2 million over the next five years.

Breakdown of gender pay gap among SU alumni
Data released with President Barack Obama’s new College Scorecard showed that SU female alumni earnings are higher than the national average in relation to the wage gap.

SU alumna awarded ‘genius grant’ from MacArthur Foundation
LaToya Ruby Frazier, who received a master of fine arts degree from SU in 2007, was named one of 24 MacArthur Foundation “genius grant” award winners for 2015. The photographer and video artist will receive a $625,000 grant over the next five years.

Syverud announces Chancellor’s Workgroup on Diversity and Inclusion
Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud announced a new university-wide Chancellor’s Workgroup on Diversity and Inclusion to “develop solutions on how to further create a more diverse and inclusive climate.” It will have a similar structure and scope as the Workgroup on Sexual Violence Prevention, Education and Advocacy Syverud created last fall.
