Athletic department finances
Data recently released by the Department of Education revealed that Syracuse University’s athletics department had the best revenue-to-expense ratio among all Power Five conference schools, not just the Atlantic Coast Conference. The department made $1.29 for every dollar it spent. It also had the third-lowest total expenses among ACC schools at approximately $60.6 million. Football and basketball expenses account for a little more than half of the total expenses, but brought in approximately 81.7 percent of the total revenue.
Cherishing history
For those interested in learning more about the quirks and stories of Syracuse’s past, follow David Haas on Instagram. Through his account, @syracusehistory, Haas posts photos of historic sites in Syracuse and captions them with a story, whether that be it’s owners or what it’s held. Haas often stumbles upon ideas for his posts, but once he finds them he puts in a lot of research. Haas said finding this history adds value to the history, and generally builds up the city.
Elite Eight
Men’s soccer defeated yet another opponent on Sunday when they faced Seattle in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championship Tournament. The final score was 3-1, which propelled the team into its first Elite Eight in program history. Last season, the Orange were defeated in the Sweet 16 by Georgetown. The No. 6 seed will now face unseeded Boston College at the SU Soccer Stadium on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Yogurtland closing
Fans of icy treats were disappointed to learn of Yogurtland’s upcoming closing. The chain, which has been a fixture on Marshall Street since August 2012, posted a photo to their Facebook page that read “Sadly, the rumors are true. Yogurtland Syracuse will be closing our doors on December 19th. Thanks for the love from our loyal SU community fans. Come take advantage of our goodbye special.” Now, those looking for frozen yogurt will have to go to the Freshens in Goldstein Student Center.
Wisconsin wins
The Wisconsin Badgers took down the Orange Wednesday night in overtime. Despite the D.O. beat writers predicting another win, the final score of 58-66 left many fans disappointed. Syracuse was outrebounded by 26, which the team could not overcome. This was the team’s first loss of the season, and brought the team down from the high of winning Battle 4 Atlantis. They play again on Saturday against Georgetown and coach Jim Boeheim will not be in attendance due to his NCAA suspension.
