In its last nonconference game of the season, Syracuse (9-10-3, 5-1-2 College Hockey America) defeated Union (0-17-5, 0-8-2 Eastern College Athletic), 4-0, in Schenectady, New York on Tuesday night.
After a scoreless first period, the Orange turned on its offense to start the second. Alysha Burriss notched a goal just 1:21 into the second period to give SU a 1-0 lead. Twenty-one seconds later, teammate Nicole Renault doubled the Syracuse lead.
With 16:31 already gone in the third period, Dutchwomen senior Elizabeth Otten was called on a slashing penalty. SU center Stephanie Grossi ended the power play early by scoring the team’s third goal 1:37 later. It was Grossi’s first since Nov. 18, against RIT. She leads the team in shots attempted.
Jessica Sibley wrapped up the scoring 40 seconds later when she took a pass from Nicole Ferrara and shot a top-shelf one-timer to put Syracuse up 4-0.
Burriss tallied three points, as she assisted on Grossi’s goal. Two defenders – Renault and freshmen Allie Munroe – led the team in shot attempts with seven a piece.
The Orange resumes play on Friday, as it gets ready for the first of back-to-back games against Mercyhurst. Both games will be played at War Memorial Arena.
