Class of 2016 wide receiver commit Sadiq Palmer’s offer was pulled by Syracuse’s new coaching staff because of academics, according to his coach, Nick Giglio, at Red Bank (New Jersey) Regional High School. Stephen Bailey of Syracuse.com first reported the news.

A few weeks ago, one of SU’s new assistants told Giglio that the Orange would not be going after players who currently wouldn’t have qualified academically and that Palmer should open his recruitment back up. Giglio said Palmer needs to improve his SAT score between 80 and 100 points to qualify to play Division I. He will be taking the SAT on Jan. 23, per Giglio.

Palmer is rated with three stars and as the 163rd wide receiver in the 2016 class by 247Sports.com’s composite rankings. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Palmer committed to Syracuse’s 2016 class on April 11, 2015. He was SU’s second Class of 2016 commit, behind Cam DeGeorge, who later flipped his commitment to Connecticut in December.

The Orange’s 2016 class is now down to 13 players with less than a month until National Signing Day. Palmer is the sixth player to leave the class since head coach Dino Babers’ hiring on Dec. 5.

Since being told SU wouldn’t wait for Palmer to bring up his SAT score and GPA, Palmer has set up visits to Massachusetts, Old Dominion, Delaware and Rhode Island.
