Parker Cantey, former football player, dead at 28, per report

Former Syracuse football linebacker Parker Cantey has died at the age of 28, according to Nate Mink of Syracuse.com.

Cantey was found in his Brooklyn home by the mother of his 2-year-old daughter, according to the report, and had a headache and back pain before his death. Cantey worked in security and as a substitute teacher, per the report.

In three seasons at SU, Cantey played 23 games and recorded 39 tackles. Coming from South Shore (New York) High School, Cantey was rated as the 28th best outside linebacker in the 2006 recruiting class by ESPN.com and as the No. 8 prospect in New York by Rivals.com and SuperPrep.

Cantey is the third known former Syracuse football player to die this year, according to the report. Luke Cain (33), a former linebacker, died on Jan. 10. Bill O’Donnell (38), a former offensive lineman died on Jan. 14.
