1. NRG Park road projects approved
Commissioners in Harris Country approved Tuesday contracts to renovate roads around NRG Park.
The approval, which is worth more than $550,000 in contracts, is part of initiatives led by Precinct 1 Commissioner Gene Locke, according to The Houston Chronicle.
NRG Stadium — where Syracuse University’s men’s basketball team will face the University of North Carolina in the men’s basketball Final Four game next Saturday — is also the site of the 2017 Super Bowl.
2. Infant found dead at daycare
Police officers are investigating the cause of death of an infant at a Missouri City daycare. A 3-month-old boy was found unresponsive at the daycare Tuesday evening, according to KTRK-TV, an ABC affiliate.
There were no signs of injury and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
State records show the daycare has a history of 31 violations over the last two years, but state investigators have concluded all violations are corrected.
3. Student test answers lost in computer glitch
Computer glitches prevented students from saving answers in mandatory statewide tests in Texas on Tuesday.
The problem affected students in the region’s largest public school districts, such as the district in Houston, according to The Houston Chronicle. The Texas Education Agency has yet to decide whether students will have to redo the exams.
4. New port facility to be built
The Port of Houston is planning to construct a refrigerated facility, allowing it to store fresh fruits and vegetables for the first time.
Currently, many agricultural products imported from overseas are sent to ports along the East Coast and then shipped to Houston, according to Houston Public Media. Ricky Kunz, chief commercial officer at the Port of Houston Authority, said the new facility will help products stay on grocery shelves and may lower prices.
5. Body found where fisherman went missing
Texas Equusearch — a volunteer organization that searches for missing persons — found a body at the Eagle Point Marina in San Leon, Texas, during a search for a missing fisherman.
The body has yet to be identified, according to KHOU 11, a CBS affiliate. However, a 59-year-old fisherman named Ba Van Nguyen disappeared after an apparent boating accident occurred at the Houston Ship Channel on Friday.
