No. 4 Syracuse (11-3, 4-1 Atlantic Coast) crushed Virginia Tech (5-10, 0-5) on Saturday, 19-5, in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Not including the game against Canisius, which is currently suspended in a 10-10 tie with just over six minutes left, due to poor weather, the Orange has won four games in a row after losing three out of five.
SU scored the first five goals of the game — two each from Kayla Treanor and Riley Donahue and one from Natalie Wallon — to jump out to an early lead. The Hokies responded with two goals, but four more from the Orange ended the half with Syracuse up 9-2.
A back-and-forth start to the second half made it an 11-3 game, but that’s when Syracuse pulled away. Eight straight Orange goals opened up a 19-3 lead, which effectively ended the game and also ended goalkeeper Allie Murray’s day a little early as she gave way to Bri Stahrr with the game well out of reach.
Twelve different players scored for the Orange, led by Donahue’s four, which matches her career high.
SU will hit the road again on Tuesday when it plays at Albany. Opening draw is scheduled for 3 p.m.
