Syracuse Director of Athletics Mark Coyle announced he’d be leaving the position on Wednesday morning in favor of the same job at the University of Minnesota.
SU Athletics sent this email to Orange Club members and season-ticket holders Wednesday afternoon:
“Dear Orange Club Members and Season Ticket Holders,
“On behalf of the Athletics Department leadership, I am writing to share with you that this morning Mark Coyle informed the University that, for family reasons, he is leaving the University for a position at Minnesota. The University wishes him well in the endeavor. The Chancellor is in the process of naming interim leadership and will communicate that decision very soon. During the past several years, our student-athletes have been incredibly successful both on the field and in the classroom. Combined with our significant investment in new facilities and our membership in one of the finest athletic and academic conferences in the country, the athletics director position at Syracuse University is one of the very best in the nation.
“We appreciate your continued support of our student-athletes and our programs.
“Go Orange!
“Sincerely,
“Sue Cornelius Edson
