Chancellor Kent Syverud will chair the six-person search committee responsible for finding Syracuse’s new director of athletics, the university announced Wednesday. The position is open after the previous athletic director, Mark Coyle, left for the same position at the University of Minnesota on May 11.
The committee expects to have a new AD in place by the beginning of the fall semester, according to the release. Syverud and the committee are still deciding if hiring a search firm will help the process. University General Counsel Daniel French is serving as interim AD in the meantime.
Syverud was not on the previous search committee that found Coyle. Robert Miron, a University Trustee and chair of the Board of Trustees’ Athletics Committee, is the only returning member. Two prominent athletics figures who were hired by Coyle, head football coach Dino Babers and deputy athletics director Kimberly Keenan-Kirkpatrick, are also on the committee.
Members of the committee are:
· Kent Syverud, Chancellor (Chair)
· Dino Babers, head football coach
· Richard Burton, Falk Professor of Sport Management and faculty athletics representative
· Kimberly Keenan-Kirkpatrick, deputy athletics director and senior women’s administrator
· Robert Miron, University Trustee and Chair of the Board of Trustees’ Athletics Committee
· Brittney Sykes, women’s basketball player
