Ellison cracked the two-deep depth chart as Evan Foster’s backup for the first time after Jordan Martin's injury.

Syracuse junior safety Daivon Ellison did not travel with the team to Tallahassee for its matchup at Florida State after violating team rules, according to SU Athletics.

Ellison started nine games last year and was third on the team with 90 tackles. He hasn’t seen the field as much this season. Safeties Evan Foster and Jordan Martin have held the starting jobs for most of the season after Antwan Cordy got hurt in the first game against Central Connecticut.

Martin got hurt against Clemson three weeks ago and on Monday it was announced that he would miss the rest of the season. Rodney Williams, who played alongside Ellison a year ago, has taken hold of Martin’s spot. But Ellison cracked the two-deep depth chart as Foster’s backup for the first time as a result.

Without Ellison, and with the injuries the team is going through, the Orange will be thin in the secondary. Williams’ listed backup is Carl Jones, a sophomore who played cornerback a year ago.
