Syracuse football game day: What to know about the Boston College matchup

Jessica Sheldon | Staff Photographer

Last year, Steve Ishmael caught eight passes for 108 yards and a touchdown. He will be SU's lead receiver Saturday afternoon.

Syracuse will look to snap a four-game losing streak Saturday, when the Orange (4-7, 2-5 Atlantic Coast) hosts Boston College (6-5, 3-4) in its 2017 season finale. Kickoff is set for 12:20 p.m. from the Carrier Dome.

On Senior Day, the Orange will look for its first win in November since knocking off BC two years ago. It won’t be easy, though. The Eagles have beaten both Louisville and Florida State this season, teams SU lost to, and BC nearly beat North Carolina State three weeks ago.

Here are answers to your game day questions and pregame reading for the Syracuse-Boston College matchup.

How can you watch the game? The game will air on the ACC Network.

What’s at stake? For Syracuse, nothing, really. Syracuse can’t make a bowl with a win. A victory would give SU five, what would be its highest total in four years.

For Syracuse seniors, this will be the final time they suit up in Orange. That includes Notre Dame graduate transfer Devin M. Butler, who is driven by his brother’s unshakable spirit. His brother, Darius, was shot five times but lived. His persistence drives Devin today.

The math class attendance sheet. As a senior at St. Anthony (New Jersey) High School, Jamar McGloster decided to take the attendance to the main office. It led to an encounter with a former Syracuse coach and an eventual scholarship. Read how McGloster arrived at Syracuse with no highlight tape and barely any football background.

Zack Mahoney, the president of Syracuse’s Uplifting Athletes chapter, will likely make his 10th and final career start under center for the Orange. He is president of Uplifting Athletes because of a bond with a friend who has a rare disease.

Who’s out? Junior quarterback Eric Dungey and running back Dontae Strickland are questionable. Neither played last week at Louisville. Dungey has yet to play past the first weekend of November over the past three seasons.

What’s to know about the Eagles? They can run the football. Here’s the full report, including players to watch and how Syracuse could win the game.
