Three Syracuse players were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American team on Tuesday.
Defenders Roos Weers and Lies Lagerweij were both named to the second team and midfielder Laura Hurff was named a third-team All American. It was Hurff’s third-straight All-American appearance and the second-straight year Lagerweij and Weers were selected. All three had already been selected to the All-Mideast region first team.
Hurff, a senior, was a first-team All-American as a sophomore and a second-team All-American as a junior. She finished her senior season with five goals and six assists. She finished her SU career with 20 goals and 15 assists.
Syracuse’s two first-team All Americans from the 2016 season, Weers and Lagerweij, finished 2017 one tier lower as second-team All Americans. Lagerweij, a senior, tallied five goals and three assists this season to conclude her Syracuse career with 27 goals and nine assists.
Weers, a junior, tied for the team-high with seven goals this season to go along with five assists. She’ll enter her final year already having accumulated 32 goals and 21 assists. Her 32 goals tie her for 15th in program history.
All three of SU’s All-American representatives were defensive contributors and keys to the Orange opening the 2017 season with a program-record seven-straight shutouts.
Syracuse’s season concluded in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in a 1-0 overtime loss to Michigan.
