After winning the national indoor title in the 5000-meter race on Friday, Knight finished in second in the 3000-meters on Saturday night.

After winning the men’s 5000-meter race Friday in the NCAA Indoor Championships, Justyn Knight placed second on Saturday in the 3000-meters with a time of 8:05.76. Andy Trouard of Northern Arizona won the race with a time of 8:04.94. Knight will come out of nationals with a total of 18 points from the two races he ran.

Knight jumped in front early before settling closely behind Trouard as the two set a slow pace for the race. The conservative start led to a dramatic final kick on the last lap.

After dropping to fifth, Knight sprinted barely ahead of Trouard on the outside to take the lead as the runners took the final lap. The pair were neck-and-neck until finally Trouard was able to pull away in the final stretch to win it.

Knight’s run wraps up the indoor season for the Orange. Next, the team will head outdoors for the Florida Relays on March 29.
