Former Syracuse wide receiver Ervin Philips has signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Philips is the second SU player — after Zaire Franklin was drafted in the seventh round by the Indianapolis Colts — to commit to a team during the 2018 NFL Draft weekend.
Philips appeared in all 12 games for the Orange in 2017, snagging 89 catches for 904 yards and four touchdowns. His 89 receptions pushed him to an SU program record, 223 career receptions. He finished his career as one of two players in ACC history with multiple 85-plus reception seasons. Philips hit a career-high with 188 receiving yards against North Carolina State on Sept. 30, 2017, during which he set the ACC and Syracuse records for most catches in a game with 17.
The 5-foot-11, 181-pound receiver also contributed lightly on the ground in his senior year, carrying the ball 11 times for 76 yards and a touchdown. In four years with SU, Philips totaled 2,069 receiving yards and 522 rushing yards.
