Ghufran Saliha nd Kyle Rosenblum are president and vice president of Syracuse University’s Student Association, respectively.

Syracuse University’s Student Association voted to fully fund a sexual health resource fair and giveaway of men’s basketball tickets at the organization’s first meeting of the semester on Monday.

SA allocated $850 for its Sexual Health Resource Fair. The fair is part of Frisky February, a month-long initiative to raise awareness about sexual health that is run by SU’s Office of Health Promotion. It will take place on Feb. 1 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Chief of Staff Mackenzie Mertikas said during a presentation on the fair.

The money will be used for decorations, cups, raffle prizes and parking and lunches for off-campus resources that will be at the fair, Mertikas said.

SA will also hand out 500 tickets to the Syracuse-Duke men’s basketball game on Feb. 23.

Each ticket will cost $5, and they’ll be given out during an SU women’s basketball game as a way to get the SU community more involved in women’s sports, SA President Ghufran Salih said.

The organization fully funded the $2,500 needed to purchase the tickets.

At the beginning of the meeting, junior Will Pritchett was re-elected as speaker of the assembly.

The organization had to vote twice because a speaker must be elected by a majority vote, but Pritchett only received 41 percent of votes during the first round of voting. He won the position with nine more votes in the second round.

While speaking to the assembly on why he should be elected, Pritchett said he was proud of his efforts to shorten SA’s weekly meetings. He also said that in his second semester as speaker he would like to create a more formalized process for making a report during a SA meeting and to redefine quorum for the organization.

An election for a new Elections and Membership Committee chair will be held at SA’s next meeting on Jan 28.
