Syracuse (8-5, 2-3 Atlantic Coast) dropped two spots from No. 27 to No. 29, while Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez jumped back into the doubles rankings at No. 70 in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings released Tuesday.
In singles, Knutson remained at No. 42 and Ramirez fell six spots to No. 77. Tuesday marked the fourth consecutive week that Syracuse dropped in team rankings, but it’s the first time since Feb. 6 that Syracuse has a ranked doubles pair
Last Sunday, SU lost at Georgia Tech 4-3, ending its four-match winning streak. Ramirez won in singles against Victoria Flores 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 for her fourth win in five matches, but Knutson lost her match in three sets, 4-6 6-4 0-6, to Kenya Jones. Knutson’s loss gave the Yellow Jackets a 3-0 lead.
Knutson and Ramirez were the No. 4 doubles pairing in the country in the preseason rankings released last September. But they were unranked by the end of the fall after succumbing to the pressure of a high ranking, the two said in January.
Ramirez had also said that she and Knutson could “easily get back” to a top-10 doubles ranking, and before their match was abandoned on Sunday, SU’s No. 1 doubles pairing had won its previous four matches.
The Orange don’t play again until it travels to Florida Atlantic University and continues a four-match road trip at 8:30 a.m.
