Syracuse Track and Field split their squad this weekend, racing in both Ithaca and Boston. The Orange men’s and women’s teams earned 12 top-five finishes.

Cornell University held the Kane Invitational while two events were hosted in Boston: the Crimson Elite, at Harvard University, and the Bruce Lehane Invitational, at Boston College.

In Ithaca, Syracuse made up four of the top-five in the men’s mile. A three-second gap separated first and fifth with Stephen Schulz (4:16.06) winning the event, followed by teammates Matthew Scrape (4:17.59) and Nathan Lawler (4:18.08) in second and third. Silas Defel (4:19.10) followed soon behind in fifth.

The dominant showing in Ithaca was shared by the women’s side. Sophomore Abigail Spiers took the top spot for the Orange in the women’s mile at 5:05.53, topping her competition by 10 seconds. Teammates Abigail Walsh (5:26.62), Keiana Mitchell (5:28.51), and Kelsey Potts (5:28.92) also finished in the top 10.

At the Crimson Elite meet, the Orange earned three top-five finishes in the men’s 60-meter hurdles. Tyler Garland finished on top with his second consecutive sub-8-second finish at 7.98. Teammates Jamil Adams (8.06) and Naseem Smith (8.08) followed Garland in third and fifth, respectively. Freshman Aja Davis finished first among collegiate runners in the women’s 60-meter dash on Friday night, her 7.50 time was good for fourth overall.

At the Bruce Lehane Invitational, Shaleah Colaire (8.76) and Andrew Aguilera (8.35) finished third in the women’s and men’s 60-meter hurdles, respectively. Senior Dasia Pressley achieved a season-best in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line at 23.96, in third as well. Aja Davis took 11th in the event with a time of 24.76.

The Orange will split up again next weekend, traveling to both coasts with the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston and the Husky Classic in Seattle.
