Syracuse’s men’s soccer game against Navy on Friday has been canceled, a Navy athletic department official confirmed to The Daily Orange. A Syracuse player tested positive for the coronavirus on Sept. 13, and SU is still handling the situation, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation.

A Syracuse Athletics communications official responded to a request for comment by referring to a previous release announcing the cancellation of the SU-Virginia exhibition, which was set to take place Sept. 19. The official did not directly address the SU-Navy game, but the university confirmed the cancellation in a Wednesday morning release.

The positive COVID-19 test from Sept. 13 caused the cancellation of SU’s exhibition against Virginia. All Syracuse players, except the individual who tested positive for the virus, have since tested negative at least three times, the source said.

The Orange’s game against the Midshipmen was their first regular season game of a shortened 2020 schedule, which continues Oct. 3 with SU’s home-opener against Pittsburgh.

SU-Navy is the fourth Syracuse sporting event to be postponed due to a positive COVID-19 case or a possible exposure to the virus. Field hockey’s two-game series last weekend against Duke was postponed after team members came in contact with an unaffiliated individual who tested positive for COVID-19.
