Syracuse women’s basketball guard Priscilla Williams has entered the transfer portal. After two seasons with the Orange, she announced her decision on Instagram.
“With coaching changes, getting hurt, and having to sit out my sophomore year, this whole process has taught me many valuable lessons that I will take with me in life,” Williams wrote.
At the beginning of the 2021-22 season, Williams announced her decision to redshirt. Williams has been dealing with a minor injury and was listed as “day-to-day” by acting head coach Vonn Read early on in the season. The sophomore last played on March 5 in the ACC Tournament quarterfinal match where she suffered a season-ending head injury just over eight minutes into the game.
“I have come to the decision that I will redshirt this basketball season but will still support my team till the end. Thank you for all the love, prayers and support. I’ll be back soon,” Williams wrote via Instagram.
Williams was one of three returning players from the 2020-21 season’s roster and was the team’s only returning starter. She started 21 games during her rookie campaign, averaging 8.7 points per game and led the team in 3-pointers made with 34.
The Atlantic Coast Conference named Williams the Freshman of the Week in then-No. 24 Syracuse’s 99-64 win over Miami on Jan. 17, 2021. She notched 26 points on 9-of-9 from the field, including six 3-pointers. Her perfect shooting performance tied a program record.
Williams perfected her 3-pointers by shooting over 500 3-pointers a day at Branson (Missouri) High School. As a junior, she set a school record with 51 points and regularly put up point totals in the 40s.
Williams’ departure marks the fourth after this season, joining Chrislyn Carr, Christianna Carr and Julianna Walker in the transfer portal. Earlier on Monday, Felisha Legette-Jack held her introductory press conference as the seventh head coach for Syracuse’s women’s basketball program.
