Syracuse attack Emily Hawryschuk earned Inside Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Offensive Player of the Week honors following a 14-point performance across SU’s games against then-No. 6 Northwestern and then-No. 7 Duke.
Last Tuesday against Northwestern, the sixth-year graduate student recorded a career-high nine points with a season-high six goals and three assists in the 16-15 overtime defeat to the Wildcats. After SU trailed 2-0 early in the first quarter, Hawryschuk assisted the Orange’s next two goals as they leveled the game at 2-2.
After a subpar second quarter, the USA Lacrosse Magazine preseason All-American scored two goals and assisted another in a 6-0 run to start the second half, helping the Orange develop an 11-8 lead after the Wildcats led 8-5 at halftime. Hawryschuk scored her fifth and sixth goals — the Orange’s only two goals in the fourth quarter — to notch her career-high in points and helped SU build a 15-12 lead with four minutes left before it fell in overtime.
On Sunday against the Blue Devils, Hawryschuk scored the opening goal for both teams just 34 seconds in and added another late in the second quarter to cut SU’s deficit to three goals after it trailed by seven at the end of the first quarter. She also equalized her assist total from the Northwestern game assisting two goals in the 11-4 run across the second and third quarters that fueled SU’s comeback.
Across the first three games, Hawryschuk only managed five goals. But she totaled 12 in the last three matchups as her 17 goals and 24 points are both second-best for the Orange.
