Syracuse defenseman Maya D’Arcy was named the College Hockey America Rookie of the Week for her play against No. 11 Clarkson. She is SU’s second freshman to earn the honors as Rhéa Hicks was the recipient of the award two weeks ago.

In the Orange’s first game of a two-game series against the Golden Knights, D’Arcy recorded the first point of her collegiate career, assisting a Tatum White goal. After a scuffle led to Madison Primeau, Sarah Thompson, and Clarkson’s Sara Swiderski all being assessed penalties, the Orange were down a player for two minutes.

Despite Clarkson having an advantage, D’Arcy cleared the puck away from Syracuse’s crease to a wide-open Lauren Bellefontaine, who proceeded to set up White for SU’s first goal of the night.

One night later, D’Arcy scored her first collegiate goal. After a cross-checking penalty by Jaden Bogden at the 10:46 mark in the first period, the Orange got a power play. D’Arcy capitalized on this opportunity as she slapped a shot off the post and into the net to give the Orange an early 1-0 lead and continue their special teams success.

Although SU received a strong play from D’Arcy in its two contests against Clarkson, it lost both games, falling to 1-6 on the season. Syracuse will look to end its five-game losing streak this weekend at the Adirondack Ice Breaker Tournament as they match up with Clarkson for the third consecutive game on Friday and will face either St. Lawrence or Holy Cross on Saturday.
