Syracuse goalkeeper Tomas Hut earned Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday. In each of SU’s first two games, Hut led it to shutout victories.

In Syracuse’s season opener against Colgate on Aug. 22, Hut’s clean sheet propelled the Orange to a 1-0 win. It was Hut’s first game in nearly two years but he made four saves, including a kick-save in the 63rd minute, to keep the game scoreless. Chimere Omeze scored in the 88th minute to power SU to its first win.

Three days later in SU’s home opener against Niagara, Hut led Syracuse to its second consecutive shutout. He wasn’t tested as much, but Hut made a diving save in the 15th minute with the game tied 0-0. It was Niagara’s lone shot on goal as SU won 3-0.

Hut, a senior, joined the Orange prior to the 2023 season after playing at Army for two seasons. He made 14 starts across 17 games with the Golden Knights and limited opponents to 1.17 goals per game.

In 2023, Hut never saw game action as Jahiem Wickham and Jason Smith each split time in net. But this offseason, Hut won the starting job.

Through two games, Hut ranks second in the ACC in saves (five). He is the first Syracuse player to be named ACC Offensive or Defensive Player of the Week this season.
